Homeopathy is a worldwide branch of natural medicine, and has been used for more than 200 years. In homeopathy every person is treated as a unique individual: with the aim of stimulating the innate ability of promoting health in ourselves. The homeopath choses the best indicated homeopathic medicine based on the individual's characteristic symptom picture and state of health.
Homeopathy is based on the principle "like cures like". Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, determined through careful experimentation that the substances bringing about symptoms and disease in otherwise healthy people, can also relinquish the same ailments in individuals presenting with them.
Homeopathic medicines are also called "remedies". They are prepared on substances derived from plant, mineral or animal materials, and go through an exact and lengthy process of dilution; until there is very little left of the original substance. Along the way the dilution is vigorously shaken, and the resulting homeopathic preparation is potentised. This high degree of dilution in an energetic process makes the homeopathic medicines safe to administer, without running the risk of adverse effects on our bodies. Homeopathy works well as a complementary treatment option, alongside conventional medical treatment.
