Aconitum napellus

Yup, homeopaths get colds too!

So, what does the homeopath do when feeling the symptoms and sign creeping up?
Actually; it depends!
If my mind is clear enough, I try and find the most appropriate remedy in the Materia Medica – and then provide myself with the homeopathic medicine from my own storage (which has gotten quite big over the years). If I don’t have it, I have to cross my fingers in hopes that the pharmacy has it in stock, or, that someone I know does!
However, if my mind is clouded by the symptoms, I will ask for help from a colleague – and follow their advice.

Like, this Monday:
I woke up, feeling quite okay, after having been completely exhausted on an unintentionally lengthy skiing trip the day before, in -18 degrees (Celsius).
Then – in the course of the day – suddenly, my cheeks were hot. And shortly after, my head was hot. Then, my body started feeling all gooey. Look familiar? Yup, the cold had «caught up with me» – seemingly out of the blue.

So, as soon as I could, I went home – took Aconite – and, rested for the rest of the evening.
The day after was spent as a sick-day, on the sofa, drinking ginger tea and taking a few doses of Aconite throughout the day.
I registered one sneeze (not much, huh!), a hot head, and a body that wanted to do nothing but rest: so, that’s what I did.
Next day: woke up fine, energy back, one dose of Aconite just in case, before embarking on the days tasks. I feel like I was let off easy, with a quite «pleasant» experience of the cold, as compared to what it could have developed into.

Why Aconite?
Well, some key features of this remedy picture – when the remedy is called for – is the aetiology: When complaints come on suddenly, from cold and dry winds, Aconite should spring to mind. Which, frankly, was the obvious assumption I came to this time around!

You can read more about Aconite on Hpathy’s page.

If you want to have Aconite in your own personal stack, you can by it at the pharmacy: in Norway, tell the pharmacy you want to order –
Aconitum Napellus 30C, product number 235829 for 10 g
Aconitum Napellus 200C, product number 353699 for 1 g
Aconitum Napellus 1M, product number N34605 for 10 g
Aconitum Napellus 1M, product number 362594 for 1 g

In Oslo, these two pharmacies are often quite helpful for ordering homeopathic medicines:
Apotek 1 Nordstjernen Oslo
Balder apotek

For a remedy like this, that could be called for in various circumstances / complaints, I would (have, actually) stack up on 30C, 200C and 1M – and seek advice from a homeopath on when to use which 🙂
And, of course, if in doubt: always seek medical attention.
